At parades, during field shows, and football games, the WAHS Color Guard brings lots of energy and exciting visuals to each performance. The group is led by color guard captains. This year’s color guard captains are Destiny McMurray and Isabella Beheran. You will be able to learn more about them in a future article.

The color guard is an auditioned extracurricular group that performs alongside the marching band. They are the students who perform routines with flags, sabers, rifles, and twirl batons, adding visual appeal to each performance. Students in the color guard rehearse during the summer and after school as well as before games and performances. In addition to this, they often practice individually to become better at each color guard discipline. Captain Destiny McMurray says something not everyone thinks about with color guard is, “It’s really a lot of fun, but surprisingly a lot of work goes into it. Swinging heavy equipment, running across the field, counting, and being ready for what comes next is very hard, but the product and the enjoyment are most definitely worth it”. Color Guard Captains lead this group by creating community, teaching new skills, organizing equipment, and helping members whenever they need it. In order to be selected as Color Guard Captain, students had to audition and be voted by their peers.
