This past Friday, five of our writers travelled to Wilkes University to participate in their Fall Media Day. Juniors Avery Ruggerio, Molly Cunningham, Mairyn Boone, and Hannah Daidone along with Freshman Reagan Buselli attended the event. It began with a tour of the Media wing on campus, featuring the television studio, speech and debate room, and campus radio headquarters. Students from multiple attending high schools such as Stroudsburg and Delaware Valley split according to Workshop interests they signed up for, including The Beacon, the university’s student-run newspaper; Zebra Public Relations, the campus’s public relations organization; WCLH Radio, the campus Television Studio, and Speech and Debate. All five of our writers had the opportunity to take part in Speech and Debate workshop, where they worked with students in the campus Speech and Debate club on impromptu speaking and persuasive debate. After the workshops concluded at noon, all attending students were treated to a complementary lunch at the Wilkes Cafeteria. The beneficial experience left a lasting impact on our writers, as many learned new skills to apply to their articles.
