Destiny McMurray is a senior member of the WAHS Color Guard. She has been a member of the group throughout high school and is serving as a captain for the second season this year. One part of color guard is performing with a variety of equipment. This year, Destiny performs with flags, double flags, and saber twirling. In past years, she has also had experience with rifle twirling and ribbons. Her inspiration for joining color guard was her sister, who participated during her time in high school. Destiny says she chose to become a color guard captain because, “It was a great opportunity, and I could bring spirit and helpful tips to the guard while also bettering myself as a leader and member.” A goal for Destiny this season is to make sure that each person feels safe and connected, while also making sure each member can perform to the best of their abilities. Something Destiny says she has learned is, “A strong community will help every other hardship not feel so hard.” Destiny is also a member of Show Choir, Choir, and Theater. She plans to attend college for education and pursue theater, choir, and color guard throughout her education.
