Freida McFadden’s Never Lie is a psychological thriller that keeps readers guessing until the very end. The story follows newlyweds Tricia and Ethan as they become stranded while house hunting, inconveniently during a snowstorm. While exploring the home, Tricia discovers a collection of old recordings that reveal the disturbing story of a missing psychiatrist and begins to uncover secrets that were never meant to be found. What makes Never Lie so interesting is how quickly the story can pull readers in and consistently makes them question what they think is true and who can be trusted. McFadden uses varying chapter lengths, unexpected comments, and small twists to create suspenseful reveals that keep the story moving, making it easy to become completely invested in. Although some parts may feel predictable to experienced thriller readers, the ending adds a final twist that makes the earlier events look completely different. Overall, Never Lie is a fast-paced and ominous read that would be especially enjoyable for anyone who likes mystery, thrillers, or books that keep their head spinning.
