The new Michael, directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson Michaels nephew as Michael Jackson, has become a huge box office success despite mixed reviews from critics. Reviewers praised Jaafar Jackson’s performance, the concert recreations, and the energetic music sequences, but many criticized the film for glossing over the controversies and abuse allegations tied to Jackson’s later life. Audiences have responded more positively than critics, with the movie earning around a 97% audience score versus the 38% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The film opened with about $97 million domestically and $120 million internationally for a worldwide debut of more than $217 million, making it one of the biggest music biopic openings ever and surpassing films like Bohemian Rhapsody and Elvis. This box office success means we will get a second Michael Movie to finish the storyline.
