On Friday, April 17, the varsity softball team faced Valley View, last year’s state champions. This game was a tough one for the girls and they lost by a score of 5-2. In total, Paupack collected only three hits while Valley View collected eight hits. In the circle, Anna Babyak pitched a strong game, striking out three and only allowing two earned runs. On offense, Adrianna Milutinovic had a 2-run homerun that got the team on the board and kept them in the game.
On Saturday, April 18, the team reset and went up against Nazareth Area High School after a long drive and an early morning. The team went into this game with a new mindset and ready to compete, and they did. The score of this game went back and forth throughout the innings but sadly, Nazareth was able to take the win by a score of 4-3. Alexa Laing was a standout in the pitcher’s circle as she struck out two through four innings. She was backed up by Anna Babyak who came in for the last two innings and struck out three and shut down Nazareth’s offense. Behind her, the defense committed zero errors. In total, Nazareth collected eight hits while Paupack collected seven. Both Reagan Anderson and Hannah Daidone collected two hits for the team while Lucy Babyak, Madison Haynes, and Lily Mancino all collected one hit.
On April 21st, the varsity team took on Scranton Prep and won by a score of 16-0 after just three innings. Anna Babyak yet again dominated in the circle and pitched a one hitter. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Paupack was just a few runs away from run ruling Scranton Prep when Lindsay Hitchcock stepped up to the plate and hit a line drive to left field and finished the game for the team.
On Wednesday, April 22nd, the varsity team faced up against Old Forge and took the win by a score of 14-8.
For JV, they traveled to Scranton Prep on April 20, and they dominated the Classics. They won by a score of 29-2, ten –run ruling them in just three innings. Grace Sterner dominated in the circle, only allowing two earned runs and five hits. On offense, Paupack collected twenty-five hits and held Scranton Prep to just five. Emily Caruso had a strong day at the plate and had a homerun over the left field fence.
