Despite moving into league play and playing tougher teams, the Wallenpaupack girls lacrosse team is making strides towards the hope of achieving their first win in their inaugural season. The girls finally returned to action on Saturday against Wyoming Seminary after two weeks due to referee issues across the Wyoming Valley Conference. This game against Sem was a tough one for the team, which ended in a 15-1 loss with a late goal from Sophie Fontano. The girls then traveled to Lake-Lehman on Monday, playing one of their best games of the season despite the final score being 18-4. Two goals came from Sophie Fontano in a game in which she went four for four on draws. Ivy Frangos and Kaylee Newcomer added on goals.
The girls then traveled to Abington Heights in what would be their toughest game of the season, as Abington is a top 10 team in the PIAA 2A division. This would be a very rough game, with a final score of 20-0 in favor of Abington Heights. With it being the girls’ first season, these rough patches are expected. In the JV game, a goal by McKenna Hanor allowed the girls to leave with something in the back of the net. The JV game ended in a 5-1 victory for Abington Heights. The girls will play their second ever home game today on the Primary School fields at 5:30 against North Pocono. Come out and support the team.
