On Friday, February 23, and Saturday, February 24, both boys and girls had won their first district championship! On the boy’s side, eleven out of thirteen will be heading to districts. When I had asked Mr. Krushnowski, if he was surprised, he gave me an honest statement, “Yes, we were surprised that eleven of our wrestlers qualified for regionals. We figured that if we had wrestled our best tournament, that we could send ten, but everything under the sun would have to go right. Realistically, we figured we seven.” The boys that will be heading to regionals are Ayden Blaut, with his weight class being 107 lbs, Beclan Brown, 114 lbs, Nick Skokos, 121 lbs, Gio Lomonaco, 127 lbs, Manny Caufield, 139 lbs, Logan Caruso, 145 lbs, Tristan Braxton, 152 lbs, Gunnar Myers, 160 lbs, Gabe Caufield, 172 lbs, Xaiden Schock, 189 lbs, Conan Kier, 215 lbs , and George Rafferty, with him being HWT.
This is the first year that a girl’s wrestling team was made. The team has made incredible process this whole season. When I had asked Mrs. Carroll, a coach for the girls wrestling team, “Could you have imagined in November that you would be team champions?” she had responded with, “Our sights were only set goal on working hard and getting better each day. I do not think it was a specific set goal to be team champions, but it reflects the girls’ hard work and dedication that we walked away with both a winning record for the season and the first ever team championship. It was incredible to be a part of it!” The girls will be taking seven girls to districts, Rosa San Clementi, 100 lbs, Sophia Yanceswicz, 106 lbs, Gia Silva, 112 lbs, Ariel Manning, 130 lbs, Alayna Atos, 142 lbs, Tati Campbell Algermon, 190 lbs, Zoey Lake, 235 lbs. With two alernates, Mya Statile, 170 lbs, Soleil Wright, 136 lbs.
We wish both the teams the best of luck! Go Buckhorns.
