A federal holiday that will be recognized for the 69th year is coming around the corner:
Veteran’s Day. This is a holiday where we, the United States of America, get to honor all people
that put their lives on the line. Women and men serve in the Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Air
Force, Coast Guard, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, and the National Guard.
This is a holiday that is recognized by all, and many people do special things for this holiday.
Something special that is done for this important holiday is the South Elementary’s Veteran’s
Day Ceremony. Every year Wallenpaupack South Elementary School has a ceremony during the
school day, and this year it will take place on November 10 at 11:00 am. This ceremony is open
to the public and all the students from South Elementary are also allowed to attend.
Additionally, Wallenpaupack Area High School’s Marching Band attends the event and plays
service songs and taps. Earlier this school year, the Wallenpaupack South Elementary students in
fourth and fifth grade wrote an essay about why Veteran’s Day is important to them. A first,
second, and third place is picked from each grade and all those students get to read their essay to all the audience members. The winners were picked by David Dickinson and Dave Guccini. The
winners this year from fifth grade are Emmalee Fogelsanger, who got third place, Dylan Hanor,
who got second place, and Dylan Kuhn, who got first place. The winners from fourth grade are
Mackenleigh Levens, who got third, Amanda Houston, who got second, and Isabelle Bauserman, who got first. Veteran’s Day is an amazing holiday to honor fallen soldiers and soldiers that are
still serving this country.
