Traveling the world is important. Nicholas “Nick” VanBuskirk, a senior at Wallenpaupack, discovered that goal since he was young. Nick has been a part of the Wallenpaupack Area School District since he was in kindergarten. Nick is known to be a very committed and personable person who loves to interact with others.
Nick has been involved in sports since he was in elementary school. His first sport was basketball, in which he finished his final playing year in February. He joined the track and field team during his sophomore year, where he participates in high jumps. Nick was a district champion during his junior season and plans to defend that title during his senior season. “These programs helped me with discipline and accountability” Nick stated, “Theses programs turned into a second family.”
Outside of school activities, Nick works at the Lighthouse Harbor during the summer, as well as the Wallenpaupack Creek Farm, where he learned important life lessons from both jobs.
After high school, Nick plans to join the Air Force. He will start his boot camp training in the summer and then will continue to work as a load master, which is a part of air transportation. He will have an eight-year contract that consists of four years of active duty, and four-year reserve. Working for this job will also help Nick achieve his dream of traveling.
Nick has many memories of his years throughout Wallenpaupack. However, his favorites are his being with his friends in the school parking lot and making plans for after school hours. “It is very important to live in the moment.” Nick said.
He has many people he wants to thank, but specifically his parents and brother, who helped him figure out his future. His other thank you goes to the basketball team, who became his second family and “Made him a better person.” We wish Nick the best of luck with his future and thank him for serving.
