On Friday, March 27, the sophomores and juniors in the Allied Health program visited Lackawanna College for a case study trip. The students all received a short story prior to visiting a fictional patient named Mrs. Jones who needed her hip replaced. The students had the opportunity to experience different programs that Lackawanna College offers that have the potential to help Mrs. Jones on her pre- and post-operative journey.

The Allied Health members visited the physical therapy assistant and the occupational therapy assistant programs and were able to learn how to treat patients from current members of the programs. The focus of the students was to help teach Mrs. Jones how to regain her mobility and safely go through her everyday life without endangering her new hip.

The aspiring medical professionals then visited the nursing assistant and medical assistant programs and got to see their high-fidelity military grade mannequins that can breathe, track you with their eyes, and express discomfort. Afterwards, the students heard from current vascular sonography assistants who graduated from Lackawanna College. They learned about the importance of using ultrasounds to look for blood clots after surgery, especially in older patients. Finally, the Allied Health students got to watch a hip replacement that was voiced over by an orthopedic surgeon.

Everyone who attended this trip gained newfound knowledge, not only of proper patient care but also of what Lackawanna College has to offer. The trip was a great way for the students to gain a new perspective of the timeline of patient care and have fun doing it.
