In honor of February being Black History Month, here are some facts you may not have known about it:
· February was chosen because both Frederick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln have birthdays during this month.
· It was originally started by a man, named Carter G. Woodson, as a week-long event in 1926.
· President Ford made it a month-long celebration in 1976.
· Each year is a different theme. This year’s theme is “A Century of Black History Commemorations.”
