Last July, twenty-five members of the Wallenpaupack Area High School Chamber Choir got an incredible opportunity: a chance to explore and perform in places throughout Italy!
Their first stop was Rome, and that is where the group got an in-depth tour of the famous Colosseum, while also taking time to explore some of the less-busy areas in the city. They also got to take a day trip to the smallest country in the world- Vatican City! The small nation is surrounded by Rome and is home to the Pope. In the Vatican, the most important church in Catholicism, the choir got to perform at mass, where they sang traditional Catholic hymns. They ended their time in Rome by visiting the Pantheon and the Spanish Steps.
The next venue was the beautiful hillside town of Assisi, most famously home to The Basilica of Saint Francis. Inside the basilica, the choir performed a short impromptu concert, then got to explore the adorable town for a few hours before heading to Florence. In Florence, the choir got a gorgeous walking tour and time to explore the city. They got to see famous sights such as Michelangelo’s David and the Duomo!
Their final stop was Venice, famously nicknamed “The Floating City.” Here they got to go on a gondola ride around the city, as well as many boat buses and water taxis to get to and from the hotel! The choir ended their journey with a concert in one of the local churches, where they performed their full selection of music, followed by one last stop at a local Gelateria.
Overall, the trip was a huge success, filled with incredible memories and experiences that will last a lifetime-while also making incredible music along the way.
