National Honor Society is an organization that acknowledges proficient high school students and provides them with numerous opportunities and benefits. To be a considered candidate, students must (typically) possess a GPA of 90 (this number will vary depending on the school), leadership qualities, service hours, and an earnest character. Wallenpaupack offers many opportunities that could potentially help students check off these requirements. Some examples of leadership positions include student council positions and student ambassadors.
It is recommended that candidates have about 6 hours of community service within their school, 6 hours of community service hours within their community, and 4 hours of their choice. Some school service activities you could join include our food pantry, helping with upcoming school events (such as dances), and etcetera. While community service hours could include volunteer work at your local library, local animal shelters (such as Dessin Animal in Honesdale), road clean-up, and any work you do for the community that you are not compensated for.
The induction ceremony will be on September 19th at 7:30 pm in Wallenpaupack Area High School auditorium. Best of luck to all the eligible candidates.
