On Tuesday, May 7, the Buckhorn (Boys and Girls) Track and Field teams went to Scranton High School’s Memorial Stadium to participate in the Spangna track meet which is the Lackawanna League Championship Meet. The Spangna’s is a track event that also includes pole vaulting and field events, that is a final event that will help to determine whether an athlete gets to participate in the District Two track meet. All Lackawanna League schools that have a track and field team participate in this event, many of them standing their ground on the track. Wallenpaupack had many individuals who had participated in this meet, with all of them doing an amazing job! Many of our runners and throwers finished in the top three in their events, and they received medals. Senior Erika Badner broke the school record in the javelin with a throw of 125-4. Senior Ben Ostroski repeated as the champion in the discus. On May 13 and 14, the teams made their way back up to Scranton High School for the last track event, Districts. Even with the rainy weather up in Scranton, the team still put on a show. The runners and throwers mostly all made it in the top six, receiving medals for their hard work! The night was an exciting one, with Ben Ostroski (discus), Tyler Yakaboski (discus), Erika Badner (javelin), and Aiden Janowicz (1600 M) all heading to states at Shippensburg University. The season was an incredible one, with the girls and boys both also being district champions this year! We hope that next year will be as incredible as this one!
