The Wallenpaupack boys and girls track season kicked off last Tuesday when the teams made the trek to Scranton. The boys are coming off a very season successful season earning a Lackawanna League Division Two championship, and having district champs in the mile, the high jump, discus and the 4×4. The girls were runner-up for the league championship last year, and they had multiple events in place in districts. Scranton had a bumpy year last year, they but came into the meet hoping to start to turn things around early this year. In the end the boys took home the victory 116-34. The girls also got the job done, winning 108-41.

This Tuesday, the Buckhorns took on arch-rival Honesdale. In recent years, Paupack has been able to handle the Hornets with ease, but Honesdale is always looking for an opportunity to upset the Bucks’ That upset will have to wait for later as the boys and the girl’s handled business. The boys won with a final of 99-50, and the girls won 112- 37.

Now two Saturdays ago the Buckhorn throwers got a little head start on the season at an Invitational meet. The throwers had an extremely successful day with multiple athletes placing in their events. However, the highlight of the day was when junior discus thrower, Ryan Vargo, broke the school discus record with a throw of 173 4’. This throw blew the previous record out of the water. With still a full two years left to throw, there is little doubt that Ryan will continue to break his record.
