The gym lights felt a little brighter this past Thursday night as six seniors took their home court for the final time against Scranton Prep. The crowd came together, everyone standing a little taller as a saxophone ensemble directed by Dr. Katie Morell played the National Anthem in honor of the special night.
The evening belonged to more than the lights and music, however — it belonged to the girls who have helped shape and leave a lasting mark on the program over the past four years: captains Abby Cykosky, Sarah Decker, Victoria Latek, Lily Mancino, Laura Posdon, and Kaitlin Williams. Each of them has worked incredibly hard and served as an inspiration to their teammates.
After being individually recognized, the seniors stepped back onto the court ready to compete. The team battled throughout the first half, staying within ten points at halftime against a highly competitive Scranton Prep team. Every player, senior or not, gave her all in the matchup.
Although the final score read 49-22, the effort and growth shown on the court spoke louder than the numbers. The junior varsity team also fought hard, winning the first half before ultimately falling 33–23.
Though their final home game has passed, the light these six seniors brought to the program will carry on — guiding the team as they head into the playoffs and beyond.
On February 18th, Paupack sadly fell short to Dallas by a score of 45-22.
