Despite the bitterly cold weather and a short week, the Lady Buckhorns basketball team played only one game—on Friday, January 30, at Valley View. Although it was freezing outside, the night was a special one that brought many families into the Cougars’ gym for Valley View’s Youth Night.
Our junior varsity girls played a strong game, even as more and more people arrived to watch. After a hard fight, they fell 30-18 to the Lady Cougars, but they still had smiles on their faces as they watched the basketball youth take part in a between-game competition. Members of Valley View’s student section lined up the raffle-winning children and organized a shooting contest. Fans from both teams packed the gym, cheering for the kids and bringing everyone together.
Right before the varsity game, every child lined up to high-five the varsity starters, a cute and energetic way to pump up the players. Although our girls were ready to play, so was our opponent. Valley View’s number 34, Cora Castellani, stole the show, taking control of the game after recently scoring her 1,000th career point. Our girls suffered a tough loss, ending the night with a 49-20 loss, but it was still an exciting and memorable Youth Night.
