Sunrise of the Reaping

Book by: Suzanne Collins

By: Reilly Buselli

Can the struggles and hardships of a fictional character mirror the strife of the real world? Some may say no, but Suzanne Collins’ Sunrise on the Reaping says otherwise.

This prequel to The Hunger Games shows the early life of the beloved character Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch is chosen as one of 48 children to fight to the death, a brutal reminder that their government holds absolute power. He goes into the games with few friends and even fewer allies, but a lot can change in a few weeks. He creates connections and learns the way of the high-tech arena in which he’s going to be fighting. To the naked eye it seems that Haymitch is training for survival, but he really has something bigger planned – something that is sure to teach the government a lesson about what happens when you use children as political pawns.

How far is too far when it comes to making a stand like this? Haymitch must determine this line for himself, especially when the government he’s working against will stop at nothing to even the score.

Generations have been tormented by the president of this country. They have had to stand by and watch their children be murdered by the dozens every year. No one had the courage to rebel, until Haymitch. Is this stand going to make a true difference? Or is it just a spark that will lead to a true rebellion?

Sunrise on the Reaping is a book that leaves you thinking long after you turn the last page. It is a book that stays with you, while also telling a touching and rebellious story.

This book is set to hit the big screen in November of 2026 and will no doubt draw full theaters.

Haymitch’s story is more than just a book; it is a mirror held up to our own lives showing us the injustice that we tolerate on a daily basis. Suzanne Collins writes to show us that the truth can cut deep, and a rebellion can often start with just one spark.
