Wallenpaupack Area High School has unveiled an exciting new addition for students preparing for life after graduation, The Buckhorn Bridge College and Career Center. The center is led by Mrs. Monte, Mrs. Sullum, and Mrs. McGinnis, along with College and Career Secretary Ms. Ragusa.
The idea for the Buckhorn Bridge has been years in the making. College and career counselors were first added to the district seven years ago, and since then, the team has envisioned a dedicated space where they could collaborate, organize events, and most importantly, provide students with focused, career-related guidance.
“Having a consistent and permanent location allows us to better support students with applications, scholarships, career exploration, and setting up both college and workforce visits,” Mrs. McGinnis explained.
Unlike the general guidance offices, the Buckhorn Bridge is designed specifically to focus on postsecondary planning.
While the center’s primary focus is on seniors, it also serves juniors and sophomores. Through the Buckhorn Bridge, underclassmen have opportunities to participate in job shadows and industry tours, ensuring they begin exploring future options early. This year, sophomores through seniors will also complete a College and Career Needs Assessment, which allows counselors to provide individualized support.
Looking ahead, the vision for the Buckhorn Bridge will continue to grow based on student involvement. The counselors emphasized that while they have plans for the space, it is ultimately student feedback that will shape the center’s future.
The Buckhorn Bridge stands as a new resource and gathering place, one that truly bridges the gap between high school and the world of college, careers, and beyond.
