Polar Bears Fun Facts

By: Bethany Day

With the Polar Pop coming up on Friday, February 28, it seems like an amazing time for the students to bundle up and stay warm as the student body watches the teachers and staff of Wallenpaupack Area High School get water, from a balloon, dumped on them in the winter weather. The staff is not the only entity dealing with the cold water during this time, as polar bears also strive in this weather. Polar bears can survive up to negative 50 degrees in the Arctic, as they have a heavy coat of fur to keep them warm. The polar bear also has a black skin underneath its fur and they can attract sunlight and stay warmer. They are fascinating creatures, as they are the largest land carnivores, and a male polar bear can weigh up to 800 pounds.
