Both the girls and boys wrestling teams have been hot as of late. The girls had two matches last week against Hanover Area and Honesdale. The boys on the other hand traveled down to Philly to participate in the Great Valley Duals, against some of the best competition in the state.
Girl’s wrestling has been rolling, as they only boast one loss in five matches so far. Last week on Tuesday, the Hornets came down to face the girls, which is never an easy competition, as Honesdale was one of the first schools in our area to create a girls’ wrestling team. Lillian Schock, Gia Silva, and Soleil Wright led the way as they always do, to a 44-18 massive win over the rivals. The following Saturday the girls hosted Hanover Area. The matches were tight in the opening rounds, but the girls rallied and pulled off their 4th win of the year beating the Lady Hawks 48-24.
The boys on the other hand, had a successful Saturday in Philly facing some of the best schools in eastern Pennsylvania. The Great Valley duals are always highly anticipated especially for Wallenpaupack, as the boys came into the duals undefeated. They started the day with a solid win against Unionville 48-21. The following match versus Lower Moreland, the boys were victorious again, winning 74-0. Senior Conan Kier also captured his 100th win in this match. The Bucks went on to win their next two matches against Episcopal Academy and Northwestern Lehigh sending them to the championship match versus the #1 ranked school in their country – Faith Christian Academy. The boys only secured one win in the match, losing big and placing second.
The girls boast a 4-1 record, and their next match is TBD. The boys hold a 13-1 record, and their next match is against Abington Heights.
