With playoffs on the horizon, the girls field hockey team is in great position to make a run in this year’s postseason. Though the team had some ups and downs, they finished their regular season with a record of 11-7, going 11-3 in their conference, earning them the 4th seed in the District Two tournament. The girls will face a familiar foe, the Delaware Valley Warriors, who went 8-10 on the season, but the Warriors got the best of Paupack in their opening game of the season, 1-0.

A key injury, suffered early in the season from senior captain defender Aubrey Folk, has forced the entire team to step up. Folk brought an offensive talent to the game as well, increasing production reas. Junior Averie Fullum would take her spot and fill the shoes well. No more than four goals were scored against the Lady Bucks in a game for the rest of the season. Offensively, Senior captain forward Olivia Karp pulled her weight securing 13 goals and four assists on the year, with Sophomore Ava Caruso adding eight goals. Sophomore Sophie Fontano lead the team in assists with five. A huge part to the Buckhorns’ success this season has been in between the posts. Junior, first year goalie Ziomara Gilmore put up 78 total saves with an impressive 1.3 goals against average.

As for last week, the girls capped off the season with two big conference wins. They began on Tuesday night on the lake for senior night. Seniors Aubrey Folk, Olivia Karp, Sophia Burbridge, and Allie Sterner were recognized for their hard work and dedication. The game’s result was a dominating 5-0 win over Nanticoke Area. Two days later Thursday, the girls traveled to Bewick for their final game of the regular season. There they capped off their season scoring nine goals (highest of the year) compared to the Bulldogs’ one.

The girls will play the Delaware Valley Warriors next week for the first round of playoffs, on a date and location that is undetermined.
