In the Local History Club, members research the local history of our area to prepare for their major events, such as the fourth graders’ local history field trip. The club has various books, artifacts, and newspapers from which to study, and those materials and artifacts have been donated to the club by our local history societies. Each year, the Local History Club plans and hosts the fourth grade’s trip to the Dorflinger Glass Museum, Lock 31 Canal House, and the one-room schoolhouse. If you are looking for a way to get involved within our school and learn more about our community’s history, joining the Local History Club is a great way to do it!

I interviewed Dr. Schmalzle, who has been faculty advisor of the club for the past school year, to learn about all the club has to offer and her experience as the faculty advisor. Dr. Schmalzle’s favorite part about the club is the opportunity of “working with amazing students and exploring ways to honor our history.”

She is most looking forward to hosting the annual local history field trip for the fourth graders. If you are interested in joining the Local History Club, you may contact Dr. Schmalzle through Outlook, schmalam@wallenpaupack.org, or visit her classroom, 110. Local History Club meetings are held every Tuesday morning in her room.
