Written by Bethany Day

The Wallenpaupack Competitive Cheer Team has done it again! The CO-ED team won first place at the Pocono Regional championship on December 10 at the Mohegan Sun Area. Mr. Dejay Branch, who has been the head cheer coach from 2013- 2014, has been with the team since PIAA started competitive cheer and he is constantly leading the team to victory. In 2013, the cheer team qualified for its first state championship. Then in 2015- 2016, the team placed second in District 2. The team then won fifth place in the nation during 2020.

The team has been consistent with getting in the top three when it comes to competitive tournaments. The group starts training in August, and its season endson March 26, the longest season in PIAA sports. However, the competitive side of the season is only three to four weeks long, so the team works hard to perfect their routines during this time.

When it comes to cheerleading, the stunts and choreography about the dance must be perfect. So, with the team constantly performing outstanding routines, they must be a perfect team! The team also won first place in CO-ED and second overall at their PIAA district two championship which took place on December 17, so they will be heading to states! The cheerleading team will be having fundraisers to help them raise money so they can go to Florida to compete in the national competition. We wish the best of luck for the team when they go to states.
