There is something for every student at Wallenpaupack. For people interested in going
into the medical field, the Allied Health CTE is a great opportunity, because Allied Health
teaches students medical skills, technical terms, and much more. As a student in this CTE
program, many doorways are opened as you get certifications, job shadows, and much more
through via the program. Unlike other programs at this school, the Allied Health CTE has been
around for a while.
The Allied Health CTE and Intro to Medical Sciences class is taught by Mrs. Elders, but
she does collaborate with Mrs. Schoenagel during the second semester because she assists with
the clinical requirements and visitations.
All freshmen get the option of many different introductory classes to see if any CTE’s
spark an interest for them. For Allied Health, the introduction class is Intro to Medical Sciences.
There are typically about 20-25 people per class who take Intro to Medical Sciences, but only 18
people can be accepted on each level into this CTE. There’s a rubric that is used to determine
whether a student will be accepted into the program, and it is based on grades, attendance,
disciplinary concerns, and interest in the program.
Although it is recommended that students attend a post-secondary medical program
after matriculating this program in high school, the Allied Health CTE helps students to be able
to work right out of high school in certain areas of the medical field. Our school is always finding
ways to help students with difficult career decisions, and the Allied Health CTE is just another
example of that.
