The Hawley Harvest Hoedown is a free annual event that has been occurring in downtown Hawley for more than 30 years. It was held this past weekend, Saturday 30- October 1 and was hosted by the Downtown Hawley Partnership, a volunteer-run organization comprising of local businesses, organizations, and individuals who work together to bring structure, growth, and fun to downtown Hawley.
Keystone and Church Streets were lined with vendors for the Harvest Market, selling handmade crafts and home decor, crystals and other metaphysical supplies, sweets and treats for humans and pets alike, balloon animals, and just about anything else you could gleen. The Hoedown also featured a Lumberjack Competition, a Beard and Mustache Competition, a Scarecrow Costume Contest, Appalachian Clogging, a Cornhole Tournament, an Outdoor Adventure Expo, live music, kids’ games and crafts, hayrides, and a petting zoo.
Volunteers in Paupack, our school’s community service organization, attended the event to haul hay bales, blow up balloons, paint faces, assist with kids’ crafts such as pumpkin decoration and bracelet making, and selling tickets for the Horse-Drawn hayrides. Volunteers had fun handing out fall-themed prizes and toys to families attending the event.
Sponsors of the Hoedown included The Dime Bank, the Lake Wally Café, the Wayne County Community Foundation, Ski Big Bear, and AMSkier Insurance.
