I’m a Little Graduate Now

On June 7, during fourth block, graduation happened. Our seniors haven’t left us yet, the kids who are members of the World Of Wonders program graduated. We saw the young ones finally leaving, excited to start their summer. The WOW program is a program that is run through the high school, and it is a class the high schoolers are able to take. The class is called Child Care, and children ages 3-5 from the community are able to come and have preschool-level classes. The Child Care class is mostly student -run.

After the graduation ceremony, we had the opportunity to interview students and teachers who help with the WOW program. One of the students was Karen Guo, who is a senior. Karen said, “The kids have changed a lot. I remember the first time they were walking through the school doors they were so shy and wondering why their parents were giving them off to these strangers, but now they look up to us and we are sort of like a comfort.”

Karen also said, “I bawled my eyes out for a good hour and a half.”

Mrs. Melissa Geisheimer, instructor of the class, said,” I’m very excited for the kids graduating and for everything that’s coming up in their future whether they are going to kindergarten or returning to us next year for another year.”

It is amazing to see all the hard work done by the students who helped with the WOW program and the students’ graduation from the WOW program. We hope to see the kids who did not graduate come back next year, and we also hope that the kids who graduated have fun in kindergarten!
