Book Review: “To Catch a Killer”

By: Any’ah Caljean

The most recent book I’ve read is the “To Catch A Killer” and “To Right The Wrongs” duology. These books are considered to be under the genres of thriller, mystery, and young adult fiction. Author Sheryl Scarborough wrote these books; this duology was published on February 27th, 2018.

In the first book, “To Catch A Killer,” we learn that Erin Blake, the main character, was left by the corpse of her murdered mother at the impressionable age of two. She had survived for three days until her mother’s best friend, Rachel Flemming, came and found her. Erin ended up living with Rachel for the next fourteen or so years. The case of her mother’s murder remained unsolved for nearly fourteen years, until Erin finds connections between her mother’s murder and the murder of her biology teacher, Miss Peters, who she had found dead in her house.

Erin Blake takes inspiration from her FBI agent uncle Victor Flemming, who works in forensics. Erin loves forensics, so she decides to take a deeper dive into the investigation of Miss Peter’s murder. She gets questioned by the police and states that she had seen her longtime crush, Journey Michaels, at the scene (of the murder) at the same time she had found her teacher’s body. The police took him into custody, but they did not know his side of the story and wouldn’t let him explain. Eventually, though, Journey and Erin meet up, without the police’s permission, and talk about what happened that night. They find out there’s a lot more to this case than they think.
